BACtrack.jpgHave you ever wondered what 0.08% BAC feels like? The BACtrack Go Keychain is a small, easy-to-use breathalyser that lets you get an idea of someone’s blood alcohol concentration before you or someone you love gets behind the wheel. To test it I took my dad on a beer tour of Vancouver. To see how that turned out and how we liked to the breathalyzer, click below to read my in depth review.

I selected the ranges myself and will confess that they are completely arbitrary, but they should give you some idea of what you can expect to receive in either a low, a medium, or a high end dashcam. So if you've been thinking of joining the dashcam revolution, step on in and learn all about this awesome emerging technology!

Getting around by car may be the easiest form of transportation, but it’s certainly not the most economical… especially when parking and gas is costing you an arm and a leg! Nowadays, there are plenty of options to choose from that will not only save you money and time, but also amp up the vitamin D in your daily commute. Here are a few of my favourite alternative personal transportation methods worth checking out: the electric bicycle, scooter, and unicycle.

Look forward to summer road trips thanks to car audio technology like CarPlay

by Blogger on ‎05-21-2014 12:48 PM - last edited on ‎01-30-2015 12:05 PM by Editor in Chief

CarPLay preview.jpgChances are you’re too young to remember this, but there was a time when car audio was limited to AM radio or even 8-track tapes. Even today, many new cars ship with a standard entertainment system that doesn’t get much fancier than an in-dash CD player. Fortunately, Best Buy has an entire department dedicated to upgrading your ride with the latest in audio and other high tech gear, including emerging new platforms like Apple’s CarPlay. Whether you want a subwoofer powerful enough to rattle your entire block, Bluetooth handsfree capability, a navigation system, video playback or the ability to use Siri to find a favourite tune, Best Buy has you covered.

Little did I know at the time that Rocketfish has an entire lineup of amazing products for home theatre, computers, mobile phones, and even GPS.

SiriusXM Canada offers more content and more control to subscribers

Canadian listeners can now benefit from the merger of two satellite radio companies.

Back in 2011, the CRTC approved Sirius Satellite and XM Radio Canada joining forces but customers had to choose between the two.

Last week SiriusXM Canada announced its “Best Of” subscription package – for an extra few dollars per month subscribers can have content from both networks on one device.

Fish Finders for Eventful Summer Fishing

by Blogger on ‎08-14-2012 10:30 PM - last edited on ‎02-18-2013 04:38 PM by Epic Genius

gone-fishin.jpegFirst off, I feel it is essential that I tell you that I’m not exactly a pro fisherman. I can remember exactly two times in my life when I was actually wielding a rod and reel. The first was when I was about five or six. In his infinite wisdom, my father decided to take my brother and I out to a local fishing place (I don’t remember if it was a pond, lake, or a stream in the forest behind our house) where we could bond while experiencing the vast wilderness in the outskirts of Edmonton. I still have vivid memories of the horror I felt when both my brother and father willingly and barbarically pierced live worm after live worm with what I recall to be giant daggers attached to feathers. This was probably the first time my father realized I would grow up to be more princess than tomboy.

Be hands free with Bluetooth accessories

by Blogger on ‎07-27-2012 07:43 PM - last edited on ‎02-19-2013 03:14 PM by Epic Genius

It’s a busy world out there. If you’re one of those people on the go all the time, you probably can’t imagine life without the ability to talk hands free. Whether you’re driving a car, washing the dishes, or typing up a report, being hands free with your phone makes you that much more productive.

Now, more than ever, Bluetooth accessories have become a multi-taskers best friend. Choose from a Bluetooth headset, stereo headphones, or Bluetooth speakerphone and you’ll be instantly connected to your smartphone for one touch talking. Some Bluetooth devices even let you use them for voice activated phone calls, where just a simple phrase will dial the phone and get you in touch with the person you want to talk to.

Road Trip Apps for Summer 2012

road+trip1.jpgThe last days of school are dragging by, the weather is improving, and summer is almost (officially) here. You know what that means? Road trip!

Gone are the days when you’d pick up a paper map and just go where the wind blows you. Smartphones, tablets, and GPS let you stay connected as you cruise familiar or unfamiliar paths, and apps have replaced those impossible to refold maps so you can guide your car in the right direction without the frustration.

I’m a strong believer that the one thing most of us have in common is an overwhelming want for more time in our lives.  I know that for me, this tends to be the root of why I have a passion for technology.  There’s nothing I love more than enjoying greater efficiency in life thanks to new technology!

Our friends at Google have made a wonderful advancement on their Google Maps platform that aids in helping us choose how much time we would like to spend traveling.  Users of Google Maps now have the ability to choose a route not only based on the shortest distance defined by actual kilometers, but based on real time traffic.

car-apps-ford-sync-destination-in-asiknews-8.jpgOne of the technologies I get really excited about is the growing integration of computers and cars. The first time I rented a Ford car with Microsoft Sync installed, I was converted! Bluetooth integration between your phone, your iPod, and your car is absolute magic. All manufacturers are now integrating Bluetooth connectivity and we are seeing some cars that have phenomenal interfaces, including texting, email, search, navigation and even social networking in the car.

Pioneer_AppRadio_2.jpgMobile devices have become a big part of our connected world - a popular theme among the press events today. But before launching into any announcements, Pioneer kicked things off with a trip back in time. In the beginning of radio we wanted 2 things while driving our car - music and information. We only had access to radio signals in our immediate proximity, so for me, having grow up in small town BC, my family and I had access to only one - our local station.

Oxygen Audio's iPhone Car Stereo

0-car #5.jpgFor all you iPhone owners, now there is a unique alternative for using it in your car, and it has nothing to do with using Bluetooth or cable hookups. Oxygen Audio has developed the O-Series car deck, which essentially turns your iPhone into a car stereo and then some. The iPhone clicks directly into the O-Car deck and becomes part of your car’s dashboard by becoming the entire control panel for your car stereo system.
