The next chapter of Microsoft Windows rolls out later this year, with several significant changes in comparison to previous versions. This week at CES, Microsoft announced that Windows 8 will add support for ARM microprocessors along with the previously supported x86 microprocessors from Intel and AMD. There’s also a new Start Screen interface designed for touchscreen interaction, in addition to the mouse, keyboard, and pen input.

One of the major themes of this year’s CES is Ultrabooks. You’ve probably heard the term before, and it looks like you’re going to hear a lot more of it. A new category in computing, Ultrabooks are garnering the kind of buzz that tablets generated last year and product offerings are popping up fast and furious.
Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini began his keynote address on Tuesday by saying computing needs to be engaging, consistent, aware and secure. In other words, we want to access and stream digital content from anywhere, anytime - in high def; we want interactivity between our devices; we want these devices to be acutely aware of our needs at any given time; and our digital content and computing needs to be secure. Some lofty standards to live up to, indeed.

GoPro started a movement with the release of the original HD Hero camera. Skiers and boarders the world over finally had a way to effectively capture their turns, tricks and spills with this on-body cam. I remember back in the day (which was only a few years ago) watching pro skiers duct tape their digi cams to their helmets to try to capture this kind of footage. I may have been guilty of this myself. But GoPro changed the game, and now this 2nd generation camera is sure to ignite a whole other genre of thrill seekers.
It seems Microsoft doesn’t have a lot to tell us that we don’t already know. CEO Steve Ballmer took the stage Monday night to deliver his final keynote, which left me a little underwhelmed. The only buzz worthy thing to note, I suppose, was an awkward appearance by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.
