Ipod Alternatives

Okay people,

let me start off by saying that I get that people LOVE their ipods. I know ipods are pretty awesome music devices and for the most part, every year they just get better.

but there are other music devices out there that are just as good that i feel sometimes get shunned by the masses cause they lack the apple logo. Anyways, i was just wondering if anyone out there has an non-apple mp3 player that they really love and is a good device. If so lemme know what type of mp3 player it is and why you like it so much.

I really just want to know what else is out there and what other people like too...

besides ipods lol.

Re: Ipod Alternatives

I love my Microsoft Zune. I got the 8g model about 2 years ago and it is awsome. Holds plenty of music, can put movies and podcast on it. Occasionally I use the AM/FM tuner on it. It is just a great little device. Great Sound Great Video and the Zune Software is easy to use.

Re: Ipod Alternatives

I love my ZuneHD that unfortunately is not officially out in Canada :smileysad:

Creative Labs and Archos do great players too... If you are a tech person the Archos has all the features you can dream about... Creative Labs has great players, but the drivers support is horrible.

Re: Ipod Alternatives

Well, I have a 120 GB Ipod Classic which I do enjoy using and I like it but I honestly would give any other like machine a try if the storage space was as large or larger. I have an RCA Lyra which is only 2GB but its was a gift and so I used it but the machine is just a music player which works well as a music player. I would recommend one of them for anyone who just wants something for running or jumping on their exercise bike. It's not big enough to take in the car unless your willing to update it constantly to put your latest music files on.

I want to purchase the new Archos 10.1 machine soon as a replacement for my current Ipod classic and give my classic to my wife for the car as I will not need it any longer with the awsomeness of the Archos player

That's so cool man.

I was just wondering if that Archos 10.1 player is the one that runs android. And if it is is that coming to Canada? Or is it already here?

Re: Ipod Alternatives

I'm not a big fan of Archos.  Too many resistive touchscreens (i.e. the kind you have to push down on to get a touch).  Android helps, but Archos has never been known for great software.

If I couldn't use an iPhone or iPod (they're still better in most areas), I'd opt for a SanDisk Sansa Clip+.  It's a great little running MP3 player that can clip to your sleeve but still has FM radio and music control.  The iPod nano beats it (bigger screen, more features), but it's also drag-and-drop and not tied to any one app.

There's also Samsung's upcoming Android-based MP3 player, but we'll see if Samsung botches the media side or if it's worth getting.
