The problem in this cases like this, is mostly related to a broken connection in the headphone cable. The reason too much stress on the connection or cable, from extreme bending, to being pulled out of the socket.
A new connector can be soldered on to the cable, or have a qualified technician replace the cable with an appropriate impedance cable.

I've heard that Bose has really good customer service for these types of issues. Have you tried contacting Bose for assistance?
I contacted them about some QuietComfort headphones which work, but a plastic piece broke on it. They asked me for the serial number and I never got around to getting back to them.
