Re: HELP ! region free dvd player???

Excuese me sir, you seems to know a lot about DVD region. I also have a problem about my blue DVD region code. I bought a blue ray DVD in UK days before when there on holidays, after I went backback to Hong Kong, i found that my DVD did not work on my player. I bought this program (http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/how-to-remove-region-code-from-dvd-actually.html)from an online shop which claims to change region code. I convert mine from region code 1 to region code 5, but still not compatible with my DVD player. It just keeps reading.
I tried HandBrake but it wouldn't decode any encrypted DVDs, it requires an add-on named libdvdcss.

I know that games are region-free on the Xbox One - can the same be said for the Blu-ray player? Is it the games themselves that are region-free, or is it the Xbox One hardware that is?

If it's the latter, then getting yourself an Xbox One might be the way to go.  Expensive for a fix for this kind of problem, but fairly future proof.

Re: HELP ! region free dvd player???

The DVD or Blu-ray disc is encoded with a region.

The player (DVD or Blu-ray) is also encoded with a region and if they match then the player will play the disc.

What you are looking for is a region-free player.  However, those are officially illegal to sell in retail.  There are 3rd party sellers who do sell them though.

Sometimes you can find a player that has its service mode code exposed.  Some service modes allow you to change the region of the player.

You can also remove the region coding from the disc with tools like HandBrake, etc.

It all depends if you are just watching one disc, or if you plan to be watching discs from other regions frequently.

actually what your looking for is http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/lg-electronics-lg-4k-uhd-wi-fi-blu-ray-player-with-hdr-compatabi...

It's listed as region free media playback under the details tab but I can't find any official writing on LG's website. Only things i could find were other forums and reviews that did state it was region free. Pal <-> NTSC video conversion built in. http://www.lg.com/ca_en/blu-ray-players/lg-UP970

I would be cautious about this one.

The official site only lists PAL/NTSC conversion, which is not the same as region free.  As far as I know, it is illegal to sell RF players, but perhaps the laws have changed.

It is fairly easy to get RF players from third party retailers or auction sites.

Re: HELP ! region free dvd player???

I know this was posted a long time ago, but I put this here to help anyone passing by.
R1 Region 1 ~ U.S.A., U.S. Territories and Canada
R2 Region 2 ~ Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
R3 Region 3 ~ Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
R4 Region 4 ~ Mexico, South and Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean
R5 Region 5 ~ Russia, Eastern Europe, India, Africa (excluding South Africa), North Korea, Mongolia
R6 Region 6 ~ China
I bought a couple of concert DVDs from Japan (belongs to the Region 2) but they won't play on my TV's DVD player (I'm in the U.S. which belongs to Region 1). I solved my problem at http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/region-2-dvd.html remove region code from DVD effectively and quickly. So, I post it here for more people, cheers
